Bicycle routes

The Barycz Valley is one of Poland's most valuable natural regions. Its distinguishing feature is Stawy Milickie (Milicz Ponds) - a complex of over 6,000 hectares of breeding ponds, established back in the Middle Ages, allegedly by the Cistercians. The natural value of the Milice ponds is compared to such famous bodies of water as Lake Baikal or Lake Victoria.

However, ponds are not everything! Associated with them are the habitats of more than 160 species of birds in the pond reeds, fields, meadows and wetlands. For a further 110 species, they are a stopover in migration. The region is also home to countless tracts of forest rich in wildlife. Passers-by are always delighted to see cranes or geese, roe deer and deer almost within reach. The Barycz Valley impresses with its ever-present brick and half-timbered buildings. Finally, it is the kingdom of Milicz carp and other fish, which can be tasted in various forms in local restaurants.

The proposed route is ideal for a day trip. It leads along two of the most interesting and beautiful trails in the Barycz Valley - the orange trail (there) and the blue trail (back), the so-called Milicz Ponds Trail. We start and finish the tour near the "Hubertówka" guesthouse in Nowy Zamek, where outsiders can have their base, as "Hubertówka" is one of the better located and adapted for cyclists Bicycle Friendly Places. But the route can be started at another convenient place (e.g. Milicz, the railway station or the recreational lagoon) and can also be ridden in the opposite direction to the proposed one.

"Hubertówka" is certified as a Cyclist Friendly PLACE. This is where our start and finish line is.

 Route:

Nowy Zamek - Ruda Milicka - Milicz - Kaszowo - Pracze - Sułów - Ruda Sułowska (goal) - Łąki - Sułów - Koruszka - Milicz - Duchowo - Czatkowice - Grabownica - Dyminy - Nowy Zamek (finish)

We set off on the orange trail, which from Ruda Milicka to Sułowo follows the route of the former narrow-gauge railway. The destination of the trip is Ruda Sułowska and a visit to an ornithological reserve, which can only be entered with a guide, as part of a photosafari tour (tickets can be purchased at the reception of the Naturum Hotel in Ruda Sułowska). Before or after the trip to the reserve, we recommend having a local fish lunch in one of the two restaurants in the village (Gospoda 8 Ryb or Zajazd "Głowaczówka" - both of which are Cyclist Friendly Places).

We encounter such landscapes several times on this route.

The return route follows the blue route through Sułów and Koruszka to Milicz. Here we encourage you to visit the Creative Multifunctional Facility (also MPR), where an exhibition of unique glass balls, which were made in Milicz after the war, and the hall of druh Bolek, a local activist and cycling marathoner, await. Entrance tickets are purchased in the café. From Milicz via Duchowo, past Bronisław's windmill, Niesułowice, Czatkowice, Grabownica (the "Blue birds" viewing tower) and Dyminy to Nowy Zamek.
